Canonical has announced the second point release of the Ubuntu 16.04 LTS "Xenial Xerus" series is available to download.
Ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS incorporates linux kernel 4.8 and various bug/security and package updates of Ubuntu 16.04
Ubuntu 16.04 LTS is a long-term OS,which will be supported with updates until 2021. Which means that it will get up to five point releases bringing up-to-date components and possibly some new features.
Kubuntu,Lubuntu,Xubuntu,Ubuntu Gnome,Ubuntu Mate will get the support for only 3 years.
If you’re already using Ubuntu 16.04, you don’t need to do anything special to upgrade to Ubuntu 16.04.2 Just install the updates available in the Update Manager and your system will be upgraded to the latest software. Or run the command in terminal:
sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade
